Kruti Dev, DevLys and Unicode — What's the Difference?

Kruti Dev and DevLys are legacy "ASCII" Hindi fonts: they map ordinary English key codes to Devanagari-shaped glyphs, so the text only reads as Hindi while that specific font is installed. Copy it anywhere else and it turns into gibberish. Unicode (the Mangal-style standard) instead stores each Devanagari character by its true code point, so it displays correctly on every device, browser and app without any font installation.

That difference is exactly why conversion matters. Government offices, courts and older documents were typed in Kruti Dev / DevLys, but to publish that text online, send it by email or use it on a phone, it must be converted to Unicode first.
